In 2018 we began a process of calculating our carbon emissions. It seemed initially that becoming carbon neutral might be a costly and difficult endeavour, but we surprisingly found it was easily within our means. We first eliminated our direct emissions through changing our energy inputs. We now use TOITU certified climate positive energy.  We use low energy RISO printing (which uses Rice Bran oil inks) or switched to a RICOH digital press (Ricoh NZ too is TOITU certified net neutral and recently the global business has been ranked in the top 50 in the Carbon Clean200 list). By default we use 100% recycled and/or carbon neutral paperstocks, however, many print jobs will not use these stocks. We use the Environmental Paper Network Paper Calculator and other supply chain transport calculators and work with our clients and the Carbon NeutralNZ Trust to offset any emissions we can’t at this stage reduce. We are also slowly building assessments of emissions embodied in our machinery and the building we lease.
